Spain's boat market grows 7% through September

Spain registered 4,642 leisure boats from January to September 2026. Motorboats, larger boats and charter are growing; the Balearics lead.

Spain's leisure boat market keeps growing. Between January and September 2026, 4,642 boats were registered, compared with 4,339 in the same period of 2025, an increase of almost 7%. September alone saw 271 registrations, 6.3% more than a year earlier.

Motorboats are driving this growth. They account for 2,004 registrations so far this year, up 16.2% on 2025, and now make up 43.2% of the market. The rise is particularly strong among larger boats: registrations of boats between 12 and 16 metres are up 38%, and those over 16 metres are up 51%.

Charter is also moving forward, with 1,440 registrations and growth of 8.1%, although it remains 12.9% below its 2024 figures.

By region, the Balearic Islands once again lead the market with 733 registrations, 15.8% of the total, and account for almost one in four new charter registrations in the country. Barcelona (541) and Madrid (364) complete the top three. In the rental segment, Barcelona (184) and Girona (127) follow the Balearics.
