Countdown to renew PortsIB berths in Mallorca

PortsIB opens renewals for base and commercial berths expiring on 31 December. Anyone who doesn't apply in time loses their spot.

Permits for base and commercial berths in the ports directly managed by PortsIB in Mallorca expire on 31 December, and the ports authority has already opened the application periods to renew them. There are two procedures under way, one for base berths for leisure boats and another for commercial berths. In neither case is renewal automatic: anyone who doesn't apply in time loses their spot.

The first opened on 1 October and affects holders of temporary base berth permits for list-seven boats in Colònia de Sant Jordi, Es Barcarès, Pollença, s'Oberta and Valldemossa. In Colònia it covers both the berths in the water and the spaces on the hardstanding. Anyone who doesn't exercise their preferential right before the end of the year will lose their assigned spot and have to vacate it, and those berths may go back into the allocation process.

The second, opened on 5 October, is aimed at boat rental, water sports and passenger transport companies holding a permit in 2026. To renew, they must be up to date with their fees and must not have breached the conditions of their permit. The new permit will cover the 2027 season, for a maximum of one year, and will take priority over any other application for the same berth. Commercial berths that aren't renewed will lose that priority and their operation will be put out to public tender.

These berths are in high demand. According to Última Hora, PortsIB keeps waiting lists at sixteen directly managed ports on the island, and those at Pollença, Colònia de Sant Jordi and Sóller each run to hundreds of applications.

Applications can be submitted until 31 December through the PortsIB online office, which recommends applying online, or in person at its offices at Calle Vicente Tofiño 36 in Palma. For commercial berths, an application made in person must then be completed electronically, and the date that counts is the date of that completion, so it's best not to leave it to the last minute.
